Salisbury Cathedral is a medieval masterpiece, widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Early English Gothic architecture. It is located in the city of Salisbury, England, and is the seat of the Bishop of Salisbury.

The cathedral was built in just 38 years, from 1220 to 1258, on a new site chosen by Bishop Richard Poore. The cathedral's main body is renowned for its unity of design, with its harmonious proportions and elegant soaring spire. The spire is 404 feet (123 meters) tall and has been the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom since 1561.

Covered walkway with ornate Gothic style arches.

Salisbury Cathedral is home to a number of important treasures, including the world's oldest working clock, which dates from about 1386, and one of only four surviving copies of the original 1215 Magna Carta. The cathedral also houses a magnificent collection of medieval stained glass, including the famous "Jesse Tree" window.

In addition to its architectural and historical significance, Salisbury Cathedral is a living church that continues to serve the community today. It is a popular tourist destination, but it is also a place of worship and contemplation for many people.

Here are some of the things you can see and do when you visit Salisbury Cathedral:

  • Climb the tower for stunning views of the city and surrounding countryside.

  • Explore the cloisters, which are considered to be among the finest in England.

  • Visit the Chapter House, which is home to the Magna Carta and other important documents.

  • See the world's oldest working clock.

  • Admire the medieval stained glass windows.

  • Attend a service or concert in the cathedral.
